Non-verbal communication
Non-verbal communication in Greek Culture.
•Personal space: In first place Greeks do not need a lot of personal space, for they is not a problem be so close to another person. For example, if you get in a public transport is probably that a strange touch your body because is not awkward for he if is not many space in the bus for example, something similar could happen if you are in a queuing, waiting for your coffee in a small cafeteria. You must be prepared to this fact that is normal for Greeks.
•Physical contact: The second example is related to personal space. In Greece physical contact is very important, this non-verbal communication is used to be friendly, in Greek culture people tend to touch another person when they talk, it is very common in a conversation this language. they can touch the back, arm, or leg of the other person to support or emphasize their ideas in a conversation.
•Pointing: In Greece, as in other countries, it is impolite to point the index finger at someone. They might take this action as an insult or offense against themselves.
•First impression: In a fist impression you can feel like the Greeks are serios or reserved, but this happened just because they do not have confidence with a stranger, they tent to be more open with people close to their, if is the first contact whit a Grek he or she could act reserved until they know you and can feel confidence with you.
Comparation of non-verbal language of Grece and Colombia.
Colombia is a country full of culture. The people have a peculiar form to related to other people. The non-verbal communication of Colombia in comparation whit nonverbal communication in Grace have some similarities.
In Colombia touch to someone accidentally can be awkward, people can feel it like a threat, while in Grece is common and nothing strange. The people in Colombia reserve the physical touch for people close to their, if in a conversation you just touch to someone that you barely know is going to be weird while in Greece is true that is more common between people you trust, but also this touch happened with people that you barely know. Also, like happened in Grece with the pointing is the same in Colombia, we could say that is a grab offense, Colombian people are too delicate with this. Finally, the first impression of a Colombian person is that are so kind and gentile since the first time you speak to them, even if they don’t know you, and this doesn’t happen in Greece in the first time when you talk whit a Greek he or she going to be reserved and cautious with you.
